Standard Naming Convention for SCOM Override MPs

I’ve gotten into a habit I wanted to share about a specific naming conventions for SCOM override MPs.

This naming standard will make it easier to find things specifically Override MPs in the OpsMgr console, which in the end is what you will want. The second two examples below are optional examples, but the override MP as we all know is needed right off the bat to make any changes to a sealed management pack.

Management Pack Name – Overrides

Management Pack Name – Company Knowledge

Management Pack Name – Customizations

Example:

Windows Server 2008 Operating System (Monitoring)

would be

Windows Server 2008 Operating System (Monitoring) – Overrides

This is a very simple naming standard and will help you figure out what override MPs have already been made when looking a the Management Pack List in the OpsMgr console, as the Override MP will show up right under the MP that it was made for if you sort the MPs by Management Pack Name.

I hope this helps you, and feel free to leave feed back!
